AGA AAP partnered with the Cross River State Ministry of Justice to host a Symposium on 25th April 2018 in Calabar, Nigeria. The symposium was structured to deal with the challenges in the investigation and prosecution of various transnational crimes, but with a focus on wildlife trafficking. Wildlife trafficking is a persistent global problem with a profound effect in Africa. Wildlife trafficking has transcended to a highly lucrative organized transitional crime, perpetrated by high network individuals and organizations.
The symposium sparked robust discussions with environmentalists, judges, attorneys general, prosecutors, law enforcement agencies, seasoned litigators and other stakeholders
Following the official opening address by Hon.Justice. Michael Edem -Chief Justice, Hon. Joe Abang-AG, Cross River State & Mr. Markus Green ESQ -AGA AAP AGA speakers; Jesus L Romero -Deputy Public Defender, Mary-Ellen Barret -Deputy District Attorney & Maria Di Tillio -Deputy District Attorney, San Diego County spoke on ‘Investigation and Prosecution of Transnational Crimes’.
Other keynote speakers included Alhaji Ibrahim Musa Goni -Conservator General National Parks Service who spoke on ‘Combating Wildlife Trafficking in Nigeria’. And Memudu Adedayo – Nigerian Conservation Foundation shared on ‘Combating Wildlife Trafficking in Nigeria.’ The presentations culminated in a Panel Discussion moderated by the erudite Chief Anthony Idigbe SAN -Senior Partner, Punuka Attorneys & Solicitors.
