Oral advocacy is a weapon which every legal practitioner should have a strong grasp of. While time restrictions placed by various Rules of the Court for oral address have made it appear like oral advocacy is disappearing from the legal landscape, these constraints have rather increased the imperative for the mastery of oral advocacy.

The time restrictions have put more burden on counsels to convincingly put forward sound arguments on behalf of their clients within the allowed time. This has made oral advocacy an invaluable skill to legal practitioner in advancing the cause of their clients both in court and out of court.

With respect to this, AGA AAP in collaboration with the Nigerian Institute of Advanced Legal Studies (NAILS) held a three-day workshop on Oral Advocacy and Electronic Evidence on the 2nd – 4th October 2019 in Abuja, Nigeria. The workshop had over a hundred and twenty (120) participants in attendance ranging from senior and junior members of the bar, Judicial officers to counsels from the Federal and State Ministry of Justices and was aimed at addressing topical issues in Nigeria’s legal system.

The workshop was officially opened by Professor Muhammed T. Ladan, Director General, Nigeria Institute of Advanced Legal Studies (NAILS) and graced by Hon. Joseph Abang, AGA AAP Good will ambassador. The oral advocacy & electronic evidence training was led by AGA AAP country coordinator for Nigeria, Chief Anthony Idigbe, Senior Partner at Punuka Attorneys & Solicitors, AGA AAP facilitators Muriel Malone Nolen, Attorney, Sierra Wallace, Assistant State’s Attorney for Cook County (Chicago IL), and Andrea Williams, Assistant State’s Attorney for Cook County (Chicago IL).
