CWAG AAP Partners With The SADC Lawyers Association

The Southern African Development Community (SADC) Lawyers Association in collaboration with the Ordem dos Advogados de Moçambique (OAM) – Mozambique Bar Association, organized the 19th Annual SADC Lawyer Association Conference, under the theme; ‘Promoting inclusive legal policies for sustainable socio-economic development in SADC.’ , on 16th – 17th August  in Maputo, Mozambique.

The conference brought together lawyers and representatives of law firms from 15 SADC countries to reflect on the achievements and challenges affecting advocacy and legal service beneficiaries in SADC countries.

President of the republic of Mozambique Hon. Filipe Nyusi, presided over the opening ceremony. He  said that lawyers are an essential group in establishing social harmony. He described them as part of civil society that intervenes in defense of the rights and obligations of citizens

CWAG AAP signed a Memorandum Of Understanding with the SADC Lawyers Association. Through this partnership SADC advocates and prosecutors will be equipped with the skills to effectively prosecute transnational criminal activities. CWAG AAP facilitated two sessions as part of the continued commitment to strengthen the rule of law and combat transnational crimes.

Attorney General of Illinois Lisa Madigan, spoke during a plenary session on the role Attorney General’s and lawyers in human rights and social economic prosperity in society. Criminal Investigator, Colorado Attorney General’s Office, Jorge H. Dugue facilitated  a session on cyber security.

President of the Mozambique Bar Association Flavio Menete, stated that the purpose of these discussion forums is to develop activities and create a network of contacts between lawyers which is important.
